The Mayan Route - 14 Days/13 Nights
Guatemala, Honduras & Belize

 

Explore Central America with its rich nature and archeological sites. This three-country program invites you to Guatemala, Honduras and Belize to take you on the Mayan Route. A truly cultural experience!

 

Day 01- Arrival in Guatemala and transfer to Hotel for overnight.

Day 02- Tour to the south coast of Guatemala. Visit EL Baul: Discover a landscape of countless stones, stellae and carvings of pre-Mayan Civilizations, highlighted by a huge hand-carved stone face, which represents the “God of the world”. Continue to La Democracia, where many artifacts are attributed to the Olmec and Pipil Civilizationson.Transfer to Chichicastenango for overnight. (B)

Day 03- City tour: visit the most colorful and picturesque Indian open-air market in the country. Hundreds of Indians from the surrounding countryside sell their goods and produce. Continue to Santo Tomas, a 400- year old Church with religious ceremonies held on the steps and inside. Overnight in Quetzaltenango (B)

Day 04- Quetzaltenango City Tour. Transfer to Panajachel (Lake Atitlan) for overnight. (B)

Day 05- City tour of Santiago de Atitlan, visiting the Maya God Maximon and learn about the textiles, spiritualism & beliefs of the T’zutujil Maya. Lunch included. Transfer to Antigua for overnight. (B)

Day 06- Antigua city tour, visiting the main square, Palace, Cathedral, La Merced Church & San Francsico Church and return to Guatemala City for overnight. (B)

Day 07- After breakfast full day tour of Copan in Honduras which is famous for its intricately carved stellae & hieroglyphic stairway as well as its New Sculpture Museum. (B)

Day 08- Full day tour of Quirigua, visiting the main Archeological Park. Transfer to Rio Dulce for overnight. (B)

Day 09- Morning at leisure. Transfer by land to Tikal. (B)

Day 10- After breakfast full day tour of the magnificent Tikal Archaeological Site, nestled in the dense jungle of the Peten. Transfer to Belize. Accommodations in the Cayo District. (B)

Day 11- Full day tour of Caracol Ruins, the largest and most impressive temple at this site is still the highest structure in the country. (B)

Day 12- Full day tour of Medicinal Panti Trails & Xunantunich ruins: climb to the top of “El Castillo”, the largest of the temples at this site, for a panoramic view of the Cayo District and nearby Guatemala. Continue to the Belize Zoo for an introduction to the country's fauna like jaguars, tapirs, toucan and jabirus.(BL)

Day 13- Full day Tour along the New River leading into swamps, little creeks and lagoons. You may spot the dainty jacanas walking on the lily pads, while the crocodiles bask in the morning sunlight. After an hour and a half on the river you arrive at Lamanai: huge masks depicting dead rulers and gods seem to materialize out of the rain forest, amid the chatter of bird-life and the haunting call of the howler monkeys.(B)

Day 14- Transfer to airport for departure flight. (B)
