Archeological Gems of Central America- 19 Days/18 Nights
Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras & Belize

 

Central America is blessed with a rich and ancient past and a vibrant present. This very comprehensive program tours Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Belize. Visit the most important archeological sites in Central America: Joya de Cerén, Copan, Ceibal, Tikal, Caracol, Altun Ha and many more. This is an impressive exploration!

 

Day 01- Arrival flight in Managua and transfer to Hotel. City tour and overnight.

Day 02- Full day Masaya volcano National Park to see its active crater. Visit the Indian market, Granada colonial town with classical and neo-classical buildings, antique churches and the isletas. (BL)

Day 03- Full day tour of Leon: Admire its many colonial buildings and churches, like the old cathedral of “ La Asuncion”  which is the largest of Central America. Discover why Leon has been considered the political, religious and military center of Nicaragua. (BL)

Day 04- Full day Los Pueblos Blancos: Visit the picturesque “white towns” on the highlands in the pacific region of Nicaragua. Each town has its own specialty art, food and tradition. Learn how people make bamboo furniture, visit Somoza and Sandino’s native towns and find beautiful arts and crafts in San Juan de Oriente. Flight to San Salvador. Overnight. (BL)

Day 05- Full day archaeological tour: Joya de Cerén, a pre-Columbian settlement, which was covered by ash thrown from volcano Caldera, San Andrés, a ceremonial center, the ruins of Tazumal, a pre-Columbian Maya archeological site, including adjacent minor pyramids and excavated ritual objects and Casa Blanca. (B)

Day 06- Full day coffee route tour. Visit Nahuizalco, remaining one of the last outposts of El Salvador's indigenous cultures and their famous handicrafts, and Apaneca, located in the coffee region of the country and maintains its colonial style and beautiful cobblestone streets.(B)

Day 07- Half day city tour and flight to Guatemala City. Transfer to Hotel and overnight. (B)

Day 08- Full day Antigua city tour, a beautiful blend of ruins, restored colonial buildings, and new buildings in colonial style &  Aguas Calientes. (BL)

Day 09- Full day Chichicastenango, well known for its famous market & Lake Atitlan, one of the most beautiful in the world with its crystalline-azure waters in the crater bowl below. (BL)

Day 10- Tour of Copan, Hondura’s greatest archaeological site: An ornate example of Early Classic architecture, including beautifully carved stellae, a restored ball court and the famous hieroglyphic stairway.(B)

Day 11- Visit the archaeological site of Quirigua, then proceed to Puerto Barrios for overnight. (B)

Day 12- Full day excursion to Livingston, surrounded by water and jungle & to Castillo de San Felipe, an old Spanish fort located at the head of Lake Izabel,. Overnight in Rio Dulce. (B)

Day 13- Morning at leisure. Land transfer to Flores. Overnight. (B)

Day 14- Full day tour of Ceibal, a Mayan archaeological site situated near the banks of La Pasión River. This stellae is among the finest and best preserved sculptures of the late Classic Period. Lunch included. (BL)

Day 15- Full day Tikal archaeological site: Visit one is the highest of the Mayan pyramids, from its top a complete view of Tikal and its surrounding jungle can be enjoyed and transfer to San Ignacio, Belize. (BL)

Day 16- Full day tour of Caracol, located in the Chiquibul Forest Reserve, is considered one of Belize’s flagship Mayan sites and its history actually tells of a military victory over Tikal. (B)

Day 17- Transfer to Belize City. City tour of the old British colonial capital. Visit the ancient swing bridge over the Haulover Creek and the oldest Anglican Cathedral in Central America, St. John's Cathedral. (B)

Day 18- Full day Olde Belize river & Altun Ha ruins tour. (B)

Day 19- Transfer to the airport for departure flight. (B)
